Description

The post-pandemic years marked an extraordinary period for state revenue in which record growth fueled a flurry of policymaking. State lawmakers established new programs, increased spending, and enacted tax cuts and one-time rebates that are still reverberating through annual budgets. But now that this revenue wave has turned, where does that leave state budgets?

In this presentation from the 2024 NASCA Institute, Pew expert Liz Farmer shares the story behind the latest data on the historic post-pandemic revenue wave and how much of that growth may have been temporary. She also previews how some of these developments may affect upcoming debates in housing, budgeting, transportation and other state policy areas in 2025.
